Friends of the Mendham Borough Library

Who We Are
The Friends of the Mendham Borough Library is a long standing group of community members, who donate their time to help the Library achieve its goal of being a vibrant and dynamic part of the community.

Why the Library Need Friends
The Mendham Borough Library is a magical place, however, it’s not a municipal institution, which means it is not fully supported by your tax dollars. While we do receive meaningful assistance from the Borough, it is not guaranteed and may fluctuate from year to year. Because of this, we rely heavily on donor contributions to fill the gap.

One of the many ways The Friends supports the Library is by organizing fundraising events that help raise additional funds that are vital to our Library’s services, programs, and facility. Over the last few years, The Friends have helped put together some signature events in the Borough, including the Holiday House Tour, Family Fun Nights, the annual Book Sale, and many great cocktail parties.

The Friends of the Mendham Borough Library also play an important role in helping to fulfill community needs by aiding in outreach projects and internal programs at the Library.

A Look at the Past…
According to a brief history, Mendham has been fortunate to maintain a public library since 1797. Begun as the Mendham Library Company, transformed into The Literary Club and the Book and Thimble Club, this generous and supportive community has always made the library a top priority. The Book and Thimble Club was so named because a member of the club would read while others would sew items for a yearly bazaar that funded the library’s collections.

Formed in the 1970s, the Friends of the Mendham Borough Library (our modern day Book and Thimble Club) run Friend and fund raising events that also go directly to maintaining the library’s collections.

Help us continue these great Mendham traditions — join the Friends today and be an integral part of making these events memorable. The Friends are actively looking for volunteers so please contact the library for more information if you would like to help.
