Meeting of the Friends

May 23, 2007

 

On May 23rd the Friends met for coffee at K.C.’s Coffee House at 9:00 am.  The meeting began at 9:13.  In attendance were Bridget Poole, Laurie Beck, Marcy Blumers, Pat Charney, MaryAnn St. Jacques, Tricia Munley, and Beth Bierals. There was a review of the minutes and they were accepted.

 

The first topic of discussion was Family Fun Night.  The date is set for February 2, 2008 at the Mendham Health and Racquet Club.  The Friends will host on “open” meeting for all to attend to begin planning the event.

 Marcy would like to list in the Mendham Messenger an outline for the year of our main events so that each meeting will become a “planning meeting” and not just “business”.

 

The Library Board is in the process of sending out the Annual Appeal Letter. They will be hand signing 1,700 letters.

 

The May Book Sale in 2007 earned about $3,800 for the Library.  In 2006 the Library earned about $1,800.  The preview party was a great success. Many volunteers turned out for the weekend.  The Friends would like to have more volunteers in March and April.

 

In 2006 the Friends raised about $19,000 total.  The Friends have raised approximately $16,000 in 2007 to date.  The Friends have raised about $35,000 since last May.  The Friends would like to publish for the information of all the exact numbers when they are ready. 

In the future the Friends will hold separate meetings for the financial information and the planning of events.

The Friends will host Family Fun Night, The Book and Bake Sale, a Fall Cocktail Party and a 50/50 Raffle.  A Summer Garden Party may be added.

 

The Open House in May 2008 would be a great time to thank all volunteers while we host our annual meeting upstairs in the Library.

 

Kathie O’Dowd has been investigating grants for a lighting upgrade in the Library.

 

The MAIN library system is now updating its system.  Mendham Borough will be updated in the near future.

 

The Friends of Mendham Library will meet on June 13th at 9:00am in the Library.
